Day 13 - 2012

I started our this morning at 6:30 from Manchester, Ohio. Rain was forcasts and I heard on the radio there was heavy rain around areas of Cincinnati, but I never did get rained on. However, due to the cloud cover and lack of intense sun, I was able to make good progress early in the day.

I saw part of a rainbow just as I got started.

I don't know what they make at this plant on the Kentucky side of the river, but I could hear it two miles before and after I got there.

This is where the buzzards hang out when they're not circling power plants.

This is my kayak tied up to the dock at Maysville, Kentucky.

After you tie up to the dock, this is the tunnel through the food wall to get into downtown Maysville.

Once through the tunnel, this sign and nice landscaping welcome you.

This is some of the landscaping and the Dafford murals painted on the flood wall.

This is a shot of Ripley, Ohio taken from the opposite side of the river. I met some people in a boat about mid-river. The wife used to teach in the Princeton School District.

This is the ferry at Augusta, Kentucky.

A house in Augusta, right on the edge of the river.

This is one of the old lock houses. This one has been restored as a museum and the grounds developed as a park.

Cool house on the river. The geese stood perfectly still as I passed.

A towboat and full complement of barges exit the Meldahl Lock, just as I get ready to enter.

This is my camp for tonight with my kayak on the left, my tent on the right and the Meldahl Dam in the background.
