Day 15 - 2012

I started out on the river at 6:15 from the Kentucky side, about a mile past Anderson Ferry.

This tower full of buzzards was my first contact of the day. In fact, I didn't talk with anyone today.

I got fairly close to the water-birds. We see these quite a bit around home. They have about a six foot wingspan.

At the center of the photo is the William Henry Harrison Tomb at North Bend. In the old days, riverboats would toll their whistles when they passed this point.

Duke Energy's Miami Fort Generating Station.

This is the I-275 Bridge, from the opposite end of the loop from where I took the I-275 Bridge photo yesterday.

At the center is the mouth of the Great Miami River.

I'm on the Great Miami here. My plan was to continue up this river to the Whitewater River, then end at the Whitewater Township canoe launch. I trained going against the current, but since that time the water level has dropped so that my mirage drive often hit bottom. Also, the current was too much for me, which I attribute to the
previous 500 miles covered at this point.

The bridge ahead is Lost Bridge. It's about a mile from the Ohio River and a mile from my house. I decided to end my trip here, then walk home to get my Escape to complete the trip.

I completed my trip, from leaving home with the rental car hauling my kayak to Pittsburgh, to picking up my kayak at home, in fourteen and a half days. This is about three days sooner than I'd planned. The Ohio River mile marker at the mouth of the Great Miami is 495 miles. So with the several side excursions and one mile trip up the Great Miami, I covered over 500 miles, which is half the total length of the Ohio River. Whether I'm able to complete the second half of the trip this summer, depends on other events in the next couple of weeks. I start jury duty this coming Monday. My daughter should be giving birth to our first grandchild soon. Also, I need to work on getting a new job in the next couple of weeks. If I'm going to start up again this summer, I'll post an announcement on the front page of my website: point2point.me

Dennis, Welcome back to this area!! I'm so happy to see you made it here so fast. I hope you will come back to Princeton. We will really miss you if not. I hope you can finish your trip later this summer.

Thanks....I'll decide in the next couple of weeks if I'll be able to continue this summer, or next.
