Day 6 - 2012

I began my day at the Magnuson On The River motel. The desk clerk told the the laundry mat was about five blocks away. So I went on my way, only to find out it was 1.8 miles away. I did my laundry, but if I'd known it was so far away, I might have tried washing things in the sink in my room. One of the places I passed on my hike was the Marietta Memorial Hospital.

It was raining most of the morning. I loaded the kayak in the rain, then used the umbrella I usually use to block some of the sun, to block the rain. It worked pretty well until later in the day.

As I travelled down the Muskingdom River to get back to the Ohio, I passed the W.P.Snyder Jr. from out of Pittsburgh. It's the oldest operable steam powered stern wheeler tow boat in the world.

I talked to several groups of kids taking part in the YMCA paddling workshop.

Also along the Muskingdom River, is this memorial to "start westward to the United States"

At the point I'm about to go under the last bridge on the Muskingdom, with the OhIo River just beyond.

I saw this cool looking house, built to look like a sternwheeler.

I passed by Parkersburg West Virginia.

I had light sprinkles most of the morning. Then it cleared up a little, only to come back strong. They said on the radio we had about an inch of rain during this little deluge. I sought refuge under an overhanging tree and two umbrellas.

This was the scene after the rain. I couldn't find a place to set my a tent, So I traveled up the Hocking River to a campground. It costs $19.00, but includes showers and restrooms. I turned the corner from the Ohio River at Hockingburg, but the little area I'm in is called Coolville.
