Day 23 - 2013

I camped at the Cannelton Lock and Dam. This is what it looked like from my campsite.......and

this is what it looked like early this morning. It rained from the time I got in my tent until this morning, so about seven hours all together. More rain was predicted for today. I started on the river at 7:10.

The Lincoln Trail Highway Bridge at Hawesville, Kentucky and Cannelton, Indiana.

Passing a ship (more like barges) building yard.

I knew there was a Walmart within a quarter mile of the river, but I missed where I was going to tie up on the shore and make my way to the store. By the time I realized I missed my stop, I was already at the boat ramp of Tell City, Indiana.

I tied my kayak up downstream from the boat ramp. From the top of the levy no one could see my kayak because it was behind the trees on the right.

After going through an opening in the flood wall, I came to this prominent looking building. I went inside and discovered it was the welcome center for Tell City. A drop dead gorgeous young woman ask me if she could help me. I told her I was looking for a coin operated laundry. She said she didn't know of one, so she looked in the phone book and found two. She even called one of them to make sure they were opened. So I went two and a half blocks to the first laundry, only to find it was closed. I then proceeded onto the second laundry which was fourteen blocks away (or about a mile). When I got there, I found out it was more like a dry cleaners. I told the guy I was actually looking for a coin operated laundry. He told me of two in town. It ended up I had to go back to the welcome center, make a turn and go another half mile. Sure enough it was there, but all together I ended up walking two and a half miles to find it.

The Walmart I intended on going to was about another half mile away. So I left my laundry in the dryer and went there. While in Walmart, it started raining pretty heavy. I ended up walking back to the laundry place and then the kayak, in the rain.

Back underway on the river, I passed a towboat without something to push. When they do this, they cause a huge wake which I have to watch out for.

This is the town of Troy, Indiana.

Here is the Corn Island Ship Building Plant.

Here is Anderson Island.

YouTube Video

Here is another video, but quite a bit different than the one from yesterday.

A floating sand/gravel plant in operation.

I'm camping on a sandy and muddy area on the Kentucky side, within sight of the William Natcher Cable Stay Bridge

This is an electric power plant, directly across from my camp.
